The Buckingham Butcher is dedicated to eco-friendly practices, from renewable energy and efficient transport to waste reduction and local sourcing. Our sustainability policy ensures high-quality products while minimising environmental impact and supporting the community.
In conjunction with Argyle Electrical Services, we are investigating and exploring ways to implement solar panels. We are also looking into how the Buckinghamshire Energy Cooperative can assist us in supporting community-based renewable energy projects. This initiative aims to reduce our carbon footprint and increase our reliance on renewable energy sources.
We aim to significantly reduce our carbon emissions by investigating the implementation of solar panels with Argyle Electrical Services and the Buckinghamshire Energy Cooperative. Transitioning to solar energy will decrease our reliance on fossil fuels, contributing to a cleaner, more sustainable future for our operations and community.
We prioritise environmental responsibility. All our vehicles undergo yearly emissions testing to ensure our fleet meets the highest emission standards. By adhering to Euro VI compliance, we guarantee that our transport operations are as eco-friendly and efficient as possible.
At The Buckingham Butcher, we ensure our refrigerated lorries are loaded efficiently to reduce energy consumption. By optimising loading patterns, pre-cooling goods, minimising door openings, using insulated pallets, and maintaining our vehicles, we enhance fuel efficiency and maximise load space, contributing to more sustainable transport operations.
We utilise advanced delivery routing software to optimise trips and stop-offs. Our software ensures routes are planned efficiently, avoiding traffic and reducing fuel consumption. It even makes real-time diversions based on ever-changing road conditions, ensuring each route is as efficient as possible.
We prioritise safety and fuel efficiency through daily speed monitoring and speed limiters on our vehicles. This ensures our drivers maintain safe speeds, reducing fuel consumption and emissions while enhancing road safety for our drivers and other road users.
We are committed to sustainability by exploring the feasibility of replacing our fleet with electric vehicles. We prioritise this transition, especially for local deliveries, to reduce our carbon footprint and enhance our environmental responsibility. As technology improves, we aim to expand the use of electric vehicles across more routes.
We use vacuum packs for hygiene compliance (we have a food hygiene rating of 5). However, we maximise their potential by using appropriately sized bags made from recycled materials, which can also be recycled. This approach helps us reduce plastic usage while maintaining the highest hygiene standards.
The Buckingham Butcher uses Chillmate for advanced refrigeration monitoring. This system continuously tracks the temperatures of our fridges and freezers, ensuring they operate at peak efficiency. By maintaining optimal temperatures, we reduce energy consumption and enhance the longevity of our equipment, contributing to significant energy savings and a smaller carbon footprint.
With a growing emphasis on sustainability and reducing energy costs, The Buckingham Butcher is investigating the installation of LED lighting in conjunction with Argyle Electrical Services. LED lights consume under 10% of conventional lights’ energy; this transition will further our commitment to energy-efficient solutions and cost reduction.
We prioritise sourcing our hand-cut lamb, pork, beef, poultry, cooked meats, and an extensive range of charcuterie locally. Wherever possible, our products come from within a 15-mile radius of Smithfield Market. We proudly partner with Touchbridge Farm and “Farmer Ed” to ensure all our meat is responsibly and sustainably sourced, supporting local farmers and reducing our carbon footprint.
We are committed to sustainability by ensuring that any new or replacement equipment meets the latest energy efficiency standards. This includes upgrading to energy-efficient refrigeration and processing equipment and installing motion-sensor lighting. Doing so reduces our energy consumption and environmental impact while maintaining high operational standards.
We are dedicated to minimising waste and ensuring responsible disposal of every scrap. We actively participate in Buckinghamshire Council’s waste management initiatives, which focus on reducing landfill waste and increasing recycling rates. The council maximises industrial waste recycling through segregated collection, dedicated recycling centres, waste audits, and partnerships with local recycling facilities. Adhering to these initiatives ensures that our waste management practices support local environmental goals and contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable community.
A/W info on energy suppliers who will no doubt have some green initiative that I can use as a reason why we chose them
At The Buckingham Butcher, educating our staff on sustainability practices is essential for meeting our sustainability goals. We provide comprehensive training on energy-saving techniques, waste reduction, and the importance of recycling. Equipping our team with the knowledge and skills necessary to implement sustainable practices ensures that our entire operation contributes to our environmental objectives.
We are committed to balancing our unavoidable carbon emissions through carbon offsetting. We are investigating viable options for offsetting our carbon footprint, including investing in certified carbon offset programmes and supporting projects contributing to environmental sustainability. By exploring these options, we aim to mitigate our impact on the environment and work towards achieving our overall sustainability goals.
